Rebuild Project: For a stronger future

The Rebuild Project is the UK’s first gym programme designed to strengthen bone, muscle, and balance — helping prevent or treat fragile bones (osteoporosis) and loss of muscle (sarcopenia). Using evidence-based resistance and impact training, Rebuild directly stimulates bone growth and builds lasting strength. The programme also meets the Chief Medical Officer’s exercise guidelines of at least two resistance sessions per week, supporting overall health and wellbeing. Delivered in a warm, supportive environment, Rebuild welcomes people of all ages and abilities. You’ll train safely under expert supervision while becoming part of a community that grows stronger together — building a body that supports you for life

The UK’s first resistance training programme designed specifically to reverse or prevent osteoporosis, build strength and put you back in control of your future body

  • Why you belong here

Less than 10% of adults in the UK take part in resistance training exercises, which is absolutely essential for not only strength and confidence, but also longevity, quality of life, and having control of how your future self is.

Rebuild project is for any adult who wants to take this opportunity and utilise the benefits of strength training for good health and wellbeing. Whether your goal is to keep active, avoid injuries, or simply feel proud of what your body can do — you’re in the right place.

Osteoporosis treatments often stop at medications that slow bone loss, but rarely focus on rebuilding strength. Moreover, most people aren’t given clear guidance on what to eat, how to move, or how to take charge of their bone health.

That’s where we come in. We’re delivering something unique — a evidence based programme to build stronger bones, boost your confidence, and future-proof your body. You belong here because your health is too important to leave to chance.

  • Why it matters

This isn’t just about exercise — it’s about freedom. Every session is designed to help you move better, stay stronger for longer, stand taller, and reduce your risk of falls or fractures.

More importantly, it’s about what that strength gives you: the ability to travel, engage in the activities you want to, stay independent, or simply do the things you love without fear.

Too many people are told they’re “too old” or “too fragile” to train. That’s wrong. Your body is incredibly adaptable — like a well-designed machine, it thrives with the right care and attention. All it needs is the right fuel, movement, and support — and we’re here to provide it.

It’s never too late, nor too early to begin building your body and with it, independence.

  • The facts

Most people hit peak bone strength by ~30 years old and after that bone and muscle naturally weaken unless we take action.

Weaker bones often come with poor balance and greater risk of fractures. Whilst medications like Alendronic Acid slow bone loss, they don’t build strength.

Targeted exercise, including impact and resistance training is one of the only proven ways to actually either build, or rebuild bone and muscle — and that’s exactly what our programme is built around.

Project Timeline

Pre Course Assessment
The Project
After the Project

After an online pre-assessment form, if you are suitable you will receive an invite for a free doctors consult. This will ensure we have all the information we need, double check eligibility and explain the process.

If you choose to join, you will also have some data and measurements taken before the course, to compare to post course. We will also discuss nutritional elements and how you can maximise the benefits of the programme by exploring your lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions, if you have any other questions please head to the contact us page.

Why us?

Medically designed, doctor led, with personalised physical trainer and nutritionist support. Based on high quality evidence and tailored to your needs, in a welcoming environment, our goal here is to maximise longevity and build a stronger YOU for the future. We don’t think you’ll find a better service to secure your future anywhere else.

What are the age requirements?

Any adult above age 18 eligible.

I am between 40-80 years age

Those between 40-80 will especially benefit due to an acceleration in bone and muscle loss in this age group. The only thing that will meaningfully revert this is resistance training, however we are aware that there are fears of weight lifting. Injury, technique, atmosphere and other anxieties are common place. With us, we will guide you through all of these anxieties so that, by the end, you feel as confident as you do strong.

I am under 40 years age

Whilst muscle and bone loss certainly advances with age, it isn’t just the concern of older adults. The process starts early and prevention is always a better strategy than reaction in this context. Building your body and your skills now so that the future version of you reaps the rewards.

Where does this take place?

Currently, our pilot programme is taking place at: Destination gym, Newcastle Rd, Stoke-on-Trent ST4 6PD. It is one of the best gyms in the Midlands with a very suitable tailored café for nutritious and delicious food, as well as world class equipment and facilities, hence the name, ‘Destination’. The atmosphere and the culture is very friendly and open to all people, so you’ll be in safe hands.

What if I have never been to the gym before?

Our programme is designed to work closely with you, especially if you’re new to the gym. Over 12 weeks, we’ll help you feel comfortable in the health centre, build your confidence, and guide you through safe, progressive resistance training tailored to your needs. We know many people don’t know where to start — that’s exactly why we’re here. With support and practice, the movements will become second nature, helping you grow stronger and more independent.

How much is it?

The sessions are £10 per session. They are done twice weekly, with an additional optional third session on weekend for those interested.

Statistics

🔢 Prevalence of Fractures in Adults Aged 65+

  • 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 will suffer a fragility fracture in their lifetime.
    (Royal Osteoporosis Society)
  • By age 80, nearly 50% of women will have experienced at least one osteoporotic fracture.
    (NICE / WHO data)
  • In the UK, 500,000 fragility fractures occur each year — most are in adults aged 65 and older.

⚠️ Impact on Mortality & Morbidity

  • Hip fractures:

    • 30% die within a year of the fracture.

    • 50% never regain previous level of mobility.

    • 10–20% are newly admitted to long-term care homes within 1 year.

  • Spinal fractures:

    • Associated with 1.8x increased risk of death.

    • Strongly correlated with chronic pain, immobility, and depression.

😞 Quality of Life Impact

  • Fractures lead to:

    • Loss of independence (e.g., walking, dressing, toileting)

    • Increased falls risk – 1 fracture raises likelihood of another

    • Chronic pain and disability – over 70% of patients with vertebral fractures have ongoing pain

    • Mental health burden – increased risk of depression and anxiety

    • Social isolation – reduced participation in community and family activities

🔄 Cycle of Decline Without Intervention

  1. Fall → Fracture

  2. Fracture → Loss of confidence / mobility

  3. Loss of mobility → Muscle wasting / increased falls risk

  4. Repeat fracture → Hospitalisation or care home admission

💪 Why Rebuild Matters

  • Only 30–40% of people who have a fragility fracture receive bone health assessment or treatment.

  • Resistance training + balance training are proven to:

    • Improve bone density (especially spine and hip)

    • Reduce falls by 30–40%

    • Boost confidence and independence

    • Prevent recurrent fractures
